| Tropical biologists are often frustrated in their attempts to study plants, animals, and climate in the forest canopy because of the difficulty of access to this region 20-50 meters high. This problem can be overcome by the use of free-standing towers (Pasoh, Malaya; Barro Colorado Island, Panama) or by tree platforms (Ulu Gombak, Malaya). In April, 1978, we constructed a canopy platform and ladder at our study site in the Kutai Nature Reserve, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, to collect data on forest phenology and the travel paths of arboreal birds and mammals. | Energy use and it's availability, now and in the future, have been of increasing concern as the decade of the 1970's elapsed and the 1980's begin. This paper describes a farm energy audit project that addressed this concern of energy use by farms in Michigan. The objectives of this paper are fourfold. First, is documentation of the Michigan Farm Energy Audit Study. This involves the step-by-step procedure as to formulation and development of the project. The second objective is to report the results of Phase I of the project. The third objective is to evaluate the feasibility of going from a pilot program to a more generalized system. This evaluation includes specification of the changes needed to expand the project to a more general system.... |

| Resumo Foram estimados, a partir dos dados de radiossondagens do período 1972/1975, os valores da divergência do campo do fluxo de vapor d'água sobre a bacia Amazônica. ∇.➝Q. De um modo genérico, houve predominância dos valores negativos da divergência, ficando evidenciada sua relação com o campo da precipitação, principalmente no mês de março. Utilizando os valores de ∇.➝Q. estimou-se em 172.616m3/s o valor médio da vazão do rio Amazonas no período estudado, constituindo-se em um método independente para estimativas de vazão em grandes bacias, mesmo desconhecendo-se os valores da precipitação e da evapotranspiração. Comparações com outros resultados utilizando-se metodologias distintas foram feitas, tendo o método aerológico mestrado ser útil inclusive... |
